Car seat groups are based on the child’s weight and, in some cases, height. This ensures the seat provides the appropriate level of protection at every stage of development. The main categories are:
- Group 0: For newborns, up to approximately 15 months or 13 kg. Usually a carrycot or rear‑facing infant seat.
- Group I: For children from about 9 months to 4 years, between 9 and 18 kg. Generally features a 5‑point harness, also rear‑facing.
- Group II: For children aged 3 to 7 years, between 15 and 25 kg. High‑back booster using the vehicle’s seatbelt.
- Group III: For children aged 4 to 12 years, from 22 kg onwards.
A backless booster can be used if the child is tall enough, always with the vehicle’s seatbelt.
